Healthy teeth and gums

mother helping child brush teeth

Keeping your teeth and gums healthy is important for you and your baby. If you’re pregnant and have gum disease, your baby could be born too early or too small.

Sometimes gum disease is painful, but not always. You might have gum disease and not even know it.

Signs of gum disease

  • Your gums bleed when you brush your teeth
  • Red, swollen or tender gums

If you have any of these signs, keep brushing and flossing every day. Visit a dentist to have your teeth cleaned. Be sure to tell the dentist you’re pregnant. This is important for them to know if they need to take an X-ray.

We cover dental cleanings every six months. If you need help finding a dentist, please call Member Services at (833) 685-2102 (TTY: 711).
